How do CBD Edibles Work?

If you’re thinking about dipping your toe into the exciting waters of the CBD (cannabidiol) trend that’s increasingly flourishing on shelves both digital and physical across the UK, then you may well have a lot of questions. What do these products do? Are they legal? How do they work?

Answering them helps you make an informed decision about if CBD is right for you, and which products you need. That’s why Dayzed is here to help.

Is CBD Legal?

Cannabidiol is a cannabinoid – a compound derived from the cannabis plant. When you learn that, it’s natural to wonder if these products are legal. Cannabis, after all, is a Class B drug and both sale and possession is controlled and punishable as a criminal offence.

Fortunately, legitimate CBD products are entirely legal. The potential for legal CBD use was created by a landmark study by the World Health Organisation. Their investigation into the compound concluded that it had “no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential.”

Once the WHO had concluded that CBD products weren’t liable to cause abuse in the same way as addictive drugs, opposition to its sale largely collapsed, and over the counter sales (as well as long awaited clinical trials) could begin. In the EU and UK, regulations state that CBD products must contain no more than 0.2% traces of THC (tetra-hydrocannabinol), the compound in the plant that causes the ‘high’ when it is smoked or eaten. This means that when you buy from reputable retailers (like Dayzed), you can rely on getting products made from special strains of the hemp plant, grown to contain only very low levels of the compound.

What Can CBD Do?

Lots of people are finding CBD useful for managing a variety of different conditions, but the two main issues that stand out are pain management and mental health issues.

In a study conducted by the Brightfield Group, 2,400 people were surveyed and of those 42% said not just that they had found CBD useful to manage pain, but that they had stopped using their previous pain medication after finding the right CBD product.

One of the contributing factors seems to be CBD’s function as an anti-inflammatory agent. Combined with its (in general) low level of side effects, this makes it a good option for managing chronic pain conditions like arthritis, which are caused by inflammation around the joints.

People with chronic mental health issues like anxiety and depression have also found CBD products effective to help manage them. Cannabidiol attaches to receptors in your endocannabinoid system, and can create similar effects to anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drugs in the brain – without some of the side effects that makes clinical medication hard for some to tolerate. The results of early studies are very promising!

Why CBD Edibles?

CBD edibles have specific advantages that make them a good choice for specific situations – mostly when you are managing a chronic condition. While CBD oil is absorbed quickly (especially when taken sub-lingually – under the tongue), gummy sweets and chocolates infused with cannabidiol break down in the stomach over time. This makes the effects slower to kick in, but longer lasting: if you get your dose of CBD from a handful of gummies, then you experience the effects for longer.

If you’re trying to manage pain that’s a chronic problem – that persists for a long time or permanently – CBD edibles provide an equally long lasting solution. They also give you a wider option for flavours, so you vary your experience with CBD, and disguise the natural flavour, which some people find bitter.

Dayzed offer a variety of CBD edibles, from gummies and sweets to teas, so you can make the choice that fits you!
